I will be completely honest with you guys. Being that its my day off, this might actually be the only productive thing that I accomplish today. In other news I will be leaving for Omaha in the morning. So if anyone has any suggestions for things for me to do, be sure to send them in. Other than that I hope everyone has a good weekend, and I promise that Monday's post will be way better than this one.
What's this? Armour for cats and mice by Jeff de Boer?
First and foremost allow me to extend a huge thank you to the awesome people visiting from Flagcounter.com. On the right hand side of the page is a counter which also keeps track of what countries my visitors are from. Thus, I can proudly say that Blogosaurus Rex has finally been viewed internationally! The counter also acts as a link if you would like to view more statistics on where the visitors are from.
NOW! How about some photography from Danny Santos II?
Alright Blogosaurs, I know you have all been anxiously awaiting my announcement for the first Super Tuesday.....which is why I will now entertain you with Roger Miller's hit "King of the Road".
ANYWAYS! For my first destination I will be heading to beautiful Omaha Nebraska! I will not be using interstate highways, and NO I will NOT be visiting the zoo. I have received some pretty cool tips for stops along the way, including a used bookstore with over 150,000 books. Don't forget to come back next Tuesday for the recap of my trip, plus the next Super Tuesday announcement!
can't trust that day Monday Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way.
Hello blogosaurs, I apologize for the brief posts as of late, but I have been pretty sick..cough..cough.. In other news I have already decided what the Super Tuesday destination will be for this week, so don't forget to check back in tomorrow to find out where I will be going. As per usual the top links have been updated for this week.
How about an exhibition from Scott Campbell using dollar bills?
Maybe just another music video from One Night Only now that that cold medicine is starting to kick in? Sounds good..
...what a day! This will be one brief post, so don't blink or you will miss it.
Another one of my poems..
Former thrones go unnoticed in this world our own histories forgotten Walking on our paths to the same destination Abandon all reason let yourself go Limbs like lead don't tread water Do what you must Indifference you have already bled Savor the tears of your own knowledge running down your cheeks Your own mouth has always been your best compass Follow it home if you are afraid isn't the journey enough?
Now for the song that has been in my head all day, turn it up and relax.
I would like to thank those of you who have already contributed suggestions for the new Super Tuesday feature. I honestly did not think that so many of you would respond in such a short time. Your suggestions were as varied as they were interesting, so please keep them coming!
Now for something completely different...an exhibit from Australian sculptor Ron Mueck.
All of this rain has kept me in a perpetual mellow state, which of course means listening to Motown. Feel free to have a listen to some Aaron Neville while you start your day.
OK Space Cadets the suspense is over. As part of an ongoing effort to be both entertaining and entertain myself with this blog, I have finally arrived at a solution that I think will make everybody happy. By sheer coincidence (perhaps cosmic fate?) my truck almost always goes 300 miles on a single tank of gas. Therefore, based on your suggestions, every week I will travel somewhere within a 300 mile radius of Kansas City. I will document the trip (narrative, pictures, possibly video) and post the results every Tuesday. Granted, this is semi-ambitious as my truck is not as young as it used to be, and 300 miles from KC will most likely put me in another state. That being said, here are a few ground rules to get the ball rolling:
The destination can fall anywhere within the 300 mile radius, even right here in KC.
The destination shouldn't cost an unreasonable amount of money.
The destination should be something that I can accomplish in one day, no overnights.
I think that is enough to get you guys started. If you can't think of a particular destination but know if a cool restaurant/historic site/roadside attraction feel free to suggest it and I will try to stop by. Please email all suggestions to theblogophile@gmail.com or send me a message on Facebook. Pending reader participation I will either announce my destination tomorrow or next week.
As a reward for all of that reading feel free to listen to "Lisztomania" by Phoenix while you think of possible destinations!
Hope everybody had a great holiday weekend. I won't lie to you guys. It is raining and overcast, and I am getting back into bed once this post is complete. Don't forget to check out this week's top five links, and come back tomorrow for Super Tuesday. I will leave you with a sad poem for sad weather..
Brilliance spills from your mouth cascading on ideas shared between us Warm tones a blanket we both share Possibilities balance on tight ropes high above our expectations Pass them by like islands all the while running on empty What state are we in? Excuses like water rising fast Sinking like stones we pat ourselves on the back Wondering aloud as we drift apart Though we always knew the truth clinging to it with all our strength Both looking back at our ship which never sank
Now quick...go blow something up, but don't forget to think about something American like the Declaration of Independence, bald eagles, or Chuck Norris. I will let you decide which one of those things best represents the United States.
All of the destruction that is sure to happen this weekend reminded me of an art exhibition that I recently ran across..
Last but certainly not least, this song has been stuck in my head all day long. The band is called One Night Only, and this is their single "Say You Don't Want It" from their upcoming album. Yes it is poppy, but also super catchy. Have a safe weekend, and don't forget to come back next week for more posts and a brand new Weekly Top 5 Links!
It would be interesting to study the correlation between collegiate productivity and the creation of the internet. I am reasonably sure that college students procrastinated before the world wide web...but how? Riding their pet dinosaurs? Going to silent movies? I am at a loss...
ANYWAYS....while surfing reddit earlier cam across some art by a fellow named Peter Callesen.
OK back to work! Oh yeah...what am I currently listening to in order to keep my spirits up? Why The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou soundtrack of course. Seu Jorge covering David Bowie's "Life on Mars" in Portugese? Don't mind if I do..
...That thrills and delights me Oh no It's just the nearness of you It isn't your sweet conversation That brings this sensation Oh no It's just the nearness of you (Norah Jones, "The Nearness of You")
Something different today..
Always biding my time until you're in my arms again Never satisfied, my soul aches with only your body to slake its insatiable thirst Our figures melting fast, only serve to blur boundaries Time suddenly marked by the beating of our hearts Keeping time until we part, I survive on the love painted across your face
Again, for anyone interested in listening to Norah Jones here is the link..
...for sunlight is like gold. (Glen Hansard, "Gold")
Pensive this morning. Watching the sunrise and drinking coffee. My day is ending, so I will leave you with one of my poems:
Slumbering, faraway places come to be alien landscapes, people I will never meet Cant stop running there making blurs out of reality Everything I know dissolves Turns into a false existential blanket wrapping myself up in it Never to leave Suffocating, dying, nirvana Awakening as if emerging from a nocturnal ocean only want to exist gasping, choking, finally breathing Lost in my own subconscious My only beacon, a vacated lighthouse I drift along on water with no current wake me when I reach Golden Country.
That will have to do for the inaugural post, hopefully more to come. Oh and if you would like to listen to the song "Gold" mentioned above, just follow the link..
